P.L.A.Y.  Peer education, Leadership, Action, Youth - promoting grassroots sport for educational success and social inclusion

During 2017-2019, Fimu is coordinating an Erasmus+ Sport project P.L.A.Y. which promotes educational service through grassroots sports, aiming at supporting children/youngsters with low school outcomes (due to migrant background, learning difficulties, low social/educational background...) valorizing volunteering, peer education and mentoring among them. This target group, along with educational difficulties, often shows also social and integration problems, together with a low participation to social and sport activities, within and outside the school context. This is due to several factors, as economic and social disadvantages of their families, migration background and cultural approaches, language gap.

The project therefore aims also at increasing these groups participation to sport activities and the connected educational support activities that will be developed, in order to contribute to spread the importance of health-enhancing physical activity, its social benefits and equal access to sport for all, as agreed upon main project’s objective.

Following these premises, the projects main objectives are:

  • promote voluntary activities in sport, together with social inclusion, equal opportunities and awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activity through increased participation in, and equal access to, sport for all;

  • create and strengthen cooperation among participating countries, no profit organizations, educational institutions and grassroots sports stakeholders at community and European level;

  • share grassroots sport and multi sports (basket, football, volleyball, rugby and other outdoor sports) culture and experience among participating countries. Increase wide participation and involvement in sports and support local communities and educational institutions to promote different kind of sports as grassroots sport and lifelong physical activity to improve physical and mental health
